Communicate clearly.

[Almost] Famous!

Every year, I get to work with a great group of people on Drive Safely Work Week, through my association with NETS (see trafficsafety.org). The campaign is for companies concerned with employee driving, whether a fleet or commuters, to encourage safe driving habits. One week in October every year is set aside as Drive Safely Work Week with different activities for each day.

A very talented writer brainstorms the theme, then the two of us come up with the basic visual approach, and we both work closely with our NETS client in making sure everything meets NETS standards. But this post isn’t about the campaign — it’s about who’s blogged about the campaign.

For the past two years, these smart people have gotten a most logical partner signed on for the campaign — the U.S. Department of Transportation. Ray LaHood, the US Secretary of Transportation, has a blog called Fast Lane that features the campaign each year. I just noticed it this year, and am so excited to see my work is noticed and blogged about — in the government, no less!

Here is the link to the Fast Lane notice for the 2011 campaign: Focus 360°: Getting There Safely is Everyone’s Business (fun note: a former student provided the cartoon for the activity LaHood mentions as his favorite!)

Since I’m [almost] famous, this link is to the blog post on the 2010 campaign: Focus: Safe Driving is Serious Business

And, my first year working on this campaign wasn’t sponsored by the DOT but did get a shout-out: Drive socused. Drive smart. Get home safely.
